Abstract:   (1193 Views)
This is an artic.:le about the pharyngeal lymphoid tissue. so called waldyer's ring. I have tride to give a rather clear discription of Its functi<"m, especially pointing to Its role in protecting the body against the infections by promoting the antibodv production and lymphocite formation.
In the view of these functions a clear cut indications and contraindications of adenotonsillectomy has been stated.
There is also a hint to precaution, and compli..:ations of the operation.
In this article two points have been emphasized: 1- The role of the pharyngeal tis􀂊ue in immunoglobulin produc!ion and the effect of tonsil operation on this function.
2- The effect of the upper resr, iratory tract allergy in mimicking U.R.T. infections and what are the effect of adenotonsillecromy in the presence of the allergic manifestations.
In my view the statement made bv pediatric allergists holds its groi.mds in every case of adenotonsillectomy accompanied by U.R.T. allergy it is better to treat the allergy first and wait for 6 months. if after this is done, there is any indication for the operation then go on to perform it.
