SUMMARY
2000 ,Tehran schoolaged children, were included in a randomized trial to evaluate the risk factors for otitis media with effusion through interviews, a written questionnaire, otoscopy pneumatic and tympanometry.
We found that the incidence of OME increased in children with parents who smoke (P<0.001) and were bottle fed as babies (P<0.005). Others factor such as, allergy, sinusitis, pharyngitis, septa! perforation (nasal), cleft palate, ear lop, bifida uvula, low birth weight ( <2500gr), kissing tonsil or hypertrophy of tonsils, common cold and duration of mother's pregnancy (term, preterm or post term) and cesarian or normal delivery by their mothers were not related to OME in our study.
