SUMMARY
A prospective randomized double blind study was conducted to investigate the effect of oxytocine injection in the umbilical cord on the third stage of labor duration. 127 cases of normal vaginal delivery (with no signs of separation of placenta during the first five minutes of fetus delivery) were selected. The cases were divided into three groups. In the first group(40 cases) 30 ml of normal saline containing 30 units of oxytocine was injected in the umbilical cord.
In the second group (43 cases) 30 ml of normal saline was injected. In the third group (44 cases) nothing was injected. No significant difference were observed among three groups (in relation to duration of the third stage of labor).
