	<abstract>&lt;div style=&quot;text-align: justify;&quot;&gt;The principal objective of radiation protec&amp;shy;tion is to ensure that the dose received by any individual does not exceed the applicable&amp;nbsp;M.P.D. values.We will discuss in this paper the presents recommendations and technical information related to the design and installation of struc&amp;shy;tural shielding with taking into account the concept of Maximum Permissible Dose equi&amp;shy;valent (MPDl as expressed and given in the Medical Journal of the National University of Iran, Vol. 3. No. 1, January 1975.&amp;nbsp;&lt;br&gt;
The numerical values of the MPD are such that the probability of adverse biological effects is extremely low in light of the present scien&amp;shy;tific knowledge of Radiation Biological Effects&amp;nbsp;(R.B.E.) in safety use. It includes a discus&amp;shy;sion of the various factors to be considered in the selection of appropriate shielding mate&amp;shy;rials and in the calculation of barrier thick&amp;shy;ness. The paper is prepared after reviewing many literatures: i.e., all NBS, ICRP, ICRU, NCRP, published Journals and reports, all in&amp;shy;ternational recommendations in this subject for ihe use of radiologists, radiological physicists, health physicists, inspectors and regulatory personnel, architects, hospital administrators in the light of planning and designing new faci&amp;shy;lities, remodelling existing facilities, possible future needs for new equipments, higher radia&amp;shy;tion source of machine and even increasing work load.&amp;nbsp;&lt;/div&gt;</abstract>
