SUMMARY
To investigate the relationship between studying in the field of laboratory sciences and some of markers of Hepatitis B virus, the prevalence of Hepatitis Bs Ag, Hepatitis Be Ag and their antibodies, were studied in 423 students of Tehran Universities. Using the enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) method, it was found that 1.4 % of laboratory sciences students possessed HBsAg,9% of them possessed Anti - HBs and 10% were exposed to virus. The prevalence of Anti-HBs was higher in the male than the female and was found to be 63 % . Students with HBsAg were further checked for Anti-HBe. 1% of laboratory students who possessed HBsAg were found to have Anti-HBs as well.
There was no significant difference in amount of this antibody between the male and the female. The percentage of Anti-HBs depends on the duration of exposure, and does not depend on the history of individuals.
Regarding the above mentioned results, it can be deduced, that since the level of infection to Hepatitis B virus is average in Iran, there is no significant difference between the laboratory sciences students and the control group.

Abstract
Iodine deficiency disorders (IDD) have been a major health problem in Iran. In order to train primary health workers (Behvarz) the diagnosis of visible goiter, two methods were compared. I: With head and neck in normal position; II: With extended neck. Behvarzes in 29 rural health centers in Ghazvin were trained method I an d30 were trained method II. 1541 school children in Ghazvin and 1532 in Abjar, aged 8 to lo years were examined by Behvarz and 2 weeks later by an endocrinologist. The results showed sensitivity of 69.3 and 42.0 positive predictive value of 76.3 and 51.8% and efficiency of 610 and 58.7% with methods I and II, respectively. It is concluded that Bchvarzes do better diagnosis with method II and they should be trained with extended meck for epidemiological detection of goiter.

Abstract
Primary Plasma cell Leukemia (PCL) is a rare disease with no standard treatment, although, combination chemotherapy, BMT and intermediate dose melphalan have been shown to be effective, in some case reports. Patients usually present with anemia, thrombocytopenia, hypercalcemia, and renal failure. Diagnosis is confirmed by peripheral and bone marrow examination. We recently had a case in our department. A 43 years old gentleman presented with history of fatigue, weakness, weight loss, dyspnea and bone pain. Diagnosis of PCL was confirmed by PBS and bone marrow exam. The patient was treated using single intermediate dose melphalan (60 mg/m2/ IV) plus Dexamethasone with G–CSF support after 3 weeks, complete remission was achieved.
In the last visit, done 9 months after treatment, he was doing well clinically and his Lab data were normal. This case report confirmed the efficacy of intermediate dose of melphalan in the management of plasma cell leukemia.

Abstract
Background: Breast cancer is more common in women with high serum testosterone level. Few studies showed that high level of serum testosterone is associated with poor prognosis. The association of testosterone level with histopathological findings has not been studied yet. In this study we investigated this association.
Methods: Patients referred to a medical oncology clinic with no history of previous chemotherapy, hormone therapy, oophorectomy, or other cancers enrolled in the study. Morning serum testosterone was checked. Histopathologic findings were extracted from pathologic reports. Relationship between testosterone level and histopathologic types was analysed.
Results: 106 patients were studied whose mean age was 47±10 years. 63.2% of our patients were premenopausal. Histopathologic factors were unfavourable in 50%. The rate of vascular invasion was 56.4% and 73% were receptor positive. Mean level of serum testosterone was 0.56±0.52 ng/ml in patients with favourable histopathology and 0.70 ±0.77 ng/ml with unfavourable histopathology (p<0.4). No testosterone level was above normal range.
Conclusion: There was no relation between serum testosterone level and histopathologic findings viz. serum testosterone level was not higher in breast cancers with unfavourable histopathologic factors. So we need to conduct more studies to figure out the reasons for the poor prognosis observed in patients with higher levels of serum testosterone.

Abstract
Abstract Background: Wet cupping is a traditional method of treatmentwhose actual mechanism and impact is not completely known yet in spite of its effect on the prevention and treatment of diseases. This research was conducted on Mice (BALB/C) in Hamedan’s University of Bu-Ali Sina on 2012 to determine the effect of one and two instances of wet cupping on hematology parameters. Materials and methods: this experimental research was conducted on 24 mice in three groups. Experimental group 1 and experimental group 2 were wet cupped once and twice respectively with the aforementioned method and their hematological indices such as white blood cells lymphocytes, granulocytes, red blood cells, hemoglobin and platelets were determined. The interval between the wet cuppings of experimental group 2 was 10 days and the control group was not wet cupped. Hematology indices were measured and statistically analyzed using ANOVA test after the first and second week. Results: the amount of RBC on the 14th day in the control group, experimental group 1 and experimental group 2 were 10.7±0.36, 9.9±0.23 and 11.1±0.16, respectively (P<0.05). Also, the amount of hematocrit in control group, experimental group 1 and experimental group 2 was measured at 47.7±0.61, 45.6±1.1 and 51±0.66, respectively. There was a significant increase in the group that received wet cupping twice. Conclusion: apparently, wet cupping increases RBC and hematocrit indices onmice over time. It can be probably effective in anemia caused by chronic kidney diseases. At the end, wet cupping is recommended for treating chronic kidney diseases caused by anemia due to its effects on erythropoietin hormone. Keywords: Wet cupping, BALB/C, Hematocrit, Red blood cells.

Abstract
Abstract Background: Due to the high prevalence of leishmaniasis andthe importance of the culture method in Leishmania research, and the vital need to the fetal calf serum (FCS), which is normally used in the media and difficulties associated with the use of this material such as the high cost, the possibility of viral contamination and the difficulty of import, the potency of bovine, sheep or mouse serums to enrich the medium in the culture of L.major was studied and compared with FCS. Materials and methods: using an experimental method, 1 million of L. majorpromastigotes obtained from Razi Vaccine and Serum Institute, were cultured in 5 flasks containing DMEM medium enriched with 10% fetal calf serum, 10% bovine serum, 10% sheep serum, 10% mouse serum and DMEM medium alone respectively. The number of parasites were counted and compared on days 2, 4, 7, 9, 11, 21 and 24. Results: The results showed that the parasite growth in the medium containing 10% mouse serum was higher than others on days 2 and 4. The parasites survival in the medium containing 10% sheep serum was longer (more than 24 days) compared to other flasks, which had no live parasite on that time point. Conclusion: In conclusion, for short time cultures (less than 7 days), media enriched with the mouse serum shows higher performance but the survival of the parasite is higher in media containing sheep serum. However, further studies are still recommended.

Abstract
Background: Cutaneous Leishmaniasis is the most important parasitic disease. As the number of resistant
types to glucantime (drug of choice) is increasing, it is necessary to investigate the effects of other drugs,
like herbal medicines, on this disease. Several studies have shown the anti Leishmania effects of olive leaf
on the Leishmania and also some organisms. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the in vitro effects
of olive leaf aqueos and hydroalcoholic extract on amastigots of Leishmania tropica glutamimn resistance
and sensitivity in vitro.
Materials and Methods: Mouse peritoneal macrophages for the maintenance of Leishmania was used in
vitro culture. To determine the effect of the extract on macrophage, cytotoxicity MTT assay was performed
and CC50 was calculated. In order to investigate the Leishmania tropica amastigots glutamimn resistance
with different concentrations of olive leaf aqueous extract, i.e. 0.31, 0.625, 1.25, and 2.5mg/ml and olive leaf
hydroalcoholic extract with different concentrations of 3.1, 6.25, 12.5, 25 μg/ml were incubated for 24-72
hours. Geimsa stain was used as positive and negative controls, respectively.
Results: We found that 2/5mg/ml olive leaf aqueous extract and 25 μg/ml hydroalcoholic extract in 72
hours are the most effective concentration and time. It is important to note that olive leaf aqueous and
hydroalcoholic extract did not have any effect on Leishmania tropica Glucantime resistance in vitro (p≤0.05).
Conclusion: The natural products are available and safe and can be used as a drug model without side
effects, especially on amastigots of Leishmania tropica glutamimn sensitivity.
