Background and aims: Postoperative pain is an important adverse effect after cesarean section and pain management is an issue of importance in these cases. The purpose in this study was to determine the efficacy of prophylactic paracetamol injection for pain reduction after cesarean.
Methods and materials: In this interventional study that was performed as a randomized clinical trial, 60 consecutive pregnant women attending to Taleghani Hospital in 2017 and 2018 for cesarean section were enrolled and randomly assigned to receive either paracetamol 1 gram or placebo. The postoperative pain (VAS) and patient’s satisfaction was compared across the groups in first 24 postoperative hours.
Results: The results in this study demonstrated that postoperative pain was significantly lower and the patient’s satisfaction was higher in first 24 postoperative hours in paracetamol versus placebo group (P < 0.05).
Conclusion: Totally, according to the obtained results it may be concluded that paracetamol is effective option for postoperative pain management in cesarean cases and use of this therapeutic is recommended.
