Background and Aim: The material is always covered by proteins immediately upon contact with a physiological environment. Hemoglobin is the one of major blood proteins. The interaction between Hemoglobin and ligands such as nanoparticles is very important and may be cause structural changes on Hemoglobin.
Materials and Methods: In this work we will address the effects of silver particles on the structural and spectral properties of Hb, by UV-Visible, fluorescence and circular dichroism (CD) spectroscopic analyses.
Results: The results of fluorescence spectroscopy and UV/Vis absorption spectroscopy indicated that the structure of the Trp residue environments was altered and the physiological functions of Hb were affected by silver nanoparticles coated with poly ethylene glycol. It could also be suggested that owing to the binding of silver nanoparticle to Hb, some conformational changes are induced, enhancing the hydrophobicity.
Conclusion: The results showed that silver nanoparticles lead to unfolding of Hb; Hence, seem to have molecular toxic properties
