Abstract:   (1587 Views)
Serum Vitamin A, total protein, serum electrophoresis, were determined in pediatric patients with urolithiasis (mostly bladder stones) and compared to that of normal healthy volunteers. The level of Vitamin A in healthy volunteers was found to be significantly (P<0.001) higher than that of patients with urolithiasis. The amount of total serum protein, however, was not significantly different in two groups, whereas, the serum albumin fraction was significantly lower in patients.
The chemical analysis of the stones revealed that they are mostly composed of urate or a mixture of urate and oxalate while similar reports confirm the fact that most of the bladder stones are composed of oxalates.
Whether the difference is due to dietary habits is uncertain.
