About more than twenty years ago, the first national brucellosis conference was held by the Infectious Diseases and Tropical Medicine Research Center Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences, the outcome of which was the development of a disease control strategy across the country, with particular attention to epidemiology in affected areas. The increase in new cases of brucellosis in western regions of the country, special attention to zoonotic diseases, and most importantly, the significant role of this disease in the emergence and re-emergence of infectious diseases, the use of brucellosis as a biological weapon in the health sector, the failure to control the disease in Iran, and the need to investigate its causes further highlight the importance of holding such seminars."
